“Resilience”, gold on paper, by Manuela Paul-Cavallier
Gold leaves on american hand-made paper. Waxed oak frame.
French work by gilder Manuela Paul-Cavallier, 2016.
This work is inspired by Kintsugi, a Japanese traditional art dating from the late 15th century, that consists in repairing broken pottery with lacquer mixed with gold. The breakage and repair of the object become a part of its history.
Manuela Paul-Cavallier uses this technique in works dealing with women’s resilience. The paper, like a wounded woman, is first creased then gilded – a kind of rebirth.
